Borrowed Space is a series of ink-stamp compositions on architectural spaces replicating the model of a floor covered with tiles. They intend to make an exercise of ‘spatial memory’ —an evocation of specific places that recall particular contexts. Through its design, they recall Colonial floor tiles to be found in many Latin American houses brought during Spanish colonial times, that in turn, were brought to Southern Spain during the period of Arab occupancy. The tiles aim to borrow a space, to recolonize territories that don’t belong to us through a symbolic, ephemeral and simple gesture. As the tiles —in this case the ink— is meant to be transited and therefore to blur until it disappears.
